Jake Jacobson (b. 1949)
Jake Jacobson was born on July 25, 1949 in Iola, Kansas. He received his
BA in Art, MA in Sculpture, and MFA in Ceramics all from Fort Hayes University.
He taught in Hutchison, Kansas in both the Senior High School and the Community
College, then became instructor of ceramics and life drawing at Kearney
State College in 1982-83. After Kearney State, Jacobson moved to Fremont
where he held the position of Assistant Professor of Art at Midland College
until 1987, when he returned to Kearney State as Associate Professor of
Art, where he is currently employed.
Jacobson's area of specialization is that of ceramic sculpture. He creates
ceramic teapots that have the appearnce and texture of metal with no apparent
function. Jacobson stated concerning his teapots,"I can metaphorically
equate the teapot with the human figure."
