Summer beckons as children (ages 4-12) and their families spend time together discovering the treasures at MONA through storytelling, sketching, and other ways of exploring art that uses an artwork on view as inspiration.

Mayhem to Marvels

Mayhem to Marvels (M & M)

Children are guided through fun and creative lessons as they explore the magical world of art on the fourth
Tuesdays of the summer months.

June 24 • “Wild Beasts” – studying the works of John J. Audubon.
July 22 • “Creative Collage” – based on the RSVP/MONA exhibition.
August 26 • “Sculpting with
Paper"– based on the work of Susan Knight.

Times: 10:00-11:30 a.m. or 1:00-2:30 p.m.
Directed to: children ages 4-5
Taught by: Susan Hart, Art certified teacher
Cost: $10 per class MONA Members, $15 for non-members.

Fun with Photographs

Discover the joy of photography and nature-print developing while creating your own composition using found objects.

“Eye-Poppin’ Portraits”

Create various types of portraits including self-portraits, family portraits, and pet portraits inspired by artwork in The Eyes Have It exhibition.

“So you wanna be a comic artist?”

Bob Hall, a comic artist for DC, Marvel, and Valiant, teaches the fundamentals of cartooning and storytelling through pictures. Don’t miss this once in a lifetime chance to work with a comic book artist!

“The Art of Adornment”

Jewelry artist Delora Hall imparts her love of jewelry-making by sharing her knowledge of stones and processes used in jewelry making and walks participants through basic techniques and composition.

Third Thursdays at MONA

Join us for Third Thursdays at MONA, an art sampler featuring artists and performers from central Nebraska. From 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. every third Thursday from September through May, individuals gather at MONA to hear short presentations in music, poetry, or perhaps a short scene from an upcoming theatre offering or a dance demonstration, as well as a discussion of a MONA artwork. All the galleries are open and everyone is invited to enjoy light refreshments, visit with each other, and view the current exhibitions in a convivial and relaxing setting.

Sounds of Summer

Summer music begins at MONA on Thursday, June 19 when Vickie Nielsen, Wes
Hird
and Friends present a show of classic jazz favorites. On July 24,
enjoy the contemporary jazz sound of Kearney native David Scott. Sounds of
Summer closes on August 21, with Treo, performing blues, reggae, americana
and rock.
MONA’s Cliff Hillegass Sculpture Garden gates open at 6:00p.m.,
the music starts at 7:00. Tables and chairs are provided. Admission is
free
. So, gather your friends, bring a picnic dinner and join us for
Sounds of Summer.
