walker art gallery
history

In 1979, a new art wing was added to the Fine Arts Complex. Robert L. Walker, member of the State College Board of Trustees and President of the Kearney Platte Valley State Bank, presented the Department of Art with a $50,000 gift to establish the gallery.

The Walker Art Gallery serves the University campus, the community, and provides the art students with an invaluable practicum experience.

A lecture/demonstration series has been added to the Walker calendar to provide the art students with an overall gallery experience.

Some of our distinguished presenters include:

Dr. Harry Rand (Smithsonian Institute, Washington, DC)
Kathleen Kuchar (Hays, KS)
Jerry Austin (Denton, TX)
Larry Schulte (New York, NY)
Matt McCoy (Lawrence, KS)
William Dick (London, England)

students

Art Department requirements enable students to display a "Senior Project" in the Walker at the end of their program of study. The Senior Project provides students with the opportunity to utilize skills and knowledge from previous coursework that will show the overall ability of the individual. The body of work created for the thesis is developed by the student, consistent with a written statement of the problem, and compiled in a notebook (portfolio), which includes: historical references, resume' and slides of the exhibition.
